RPGamer Round-Up: June 2 – June 9

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s newest column, where we take a quick look back at some of the articles we’ve posted throughout the week. This article is designed to help give reminders for some interesting editorial content and stories that our less regular visitors might have missed.

With E3 coming up this week, here’s a reminder of how to keep up with all of RPGamer’s coverage of the event.

 

Editorial Content and Features

The JRPGL reached its climax, as staff members’ drafted parties battled it out in a series of reader votes. Following the first round of divisional votes, the Alltrades Abbey Apollos, Terra’s Terrors, Zenobia White Wolves, and Alrest Flamebringers faced off in the final.

Elmon Dean Todd makes his RPGamer reviewing debut with a look at XSEED Games’ Fate/EXTELLA LINK. The Musou-style follow-up to Fate/Extra and Fate/EXTELLA looks to speed things up even further.

Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark invites players to come for the tactical combat rife with customization options, then stay for a spell for the engaging story at its center. Pascal Tekaia comes back with a very favourable report on the game.

The space rapper duo returned earlier this year with ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove. Zach Welhouse provides his thoughts on their return.

NIS America’s Lapis x Labyrinth invites players to stack, raid, and get paid. Alex Fuller did just that in order to come back with a review for the game.

Swag and Sorcery bills itself as an idle RPG and city-building game. Matt Masem finds that it doesn’t quite provide the streamlined experience he was hoping for.

Major News

Nintendo posted a new Direct presentation dedicated to the next generation of Pokémon games. Pokémon Sword and Shield will introduce some new combat elements, among other things, when they release in November.

The Baldur’s Gate series is getting a new entry. Baldur’s Gate III is being created by Divinity: Original Sin developer Larian Studios, who are under strict instructions to include ceremorphosis.

The next title in the Darksiders franchise may be a top-down spin-off, but that doesn’t mean hell has gotten any friendlier. Let the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse ride forth.

Google held a presentation for its upcoming Stadia streaming service. Included among the other details were the reveals of numerous RPGs that will be available on it.

Sega and Eden Industries have announced a follow-up to 2015’s Citizens of Earth. Citizens of Space puts players in the role of Ambassador to the Galactic Federation of Planets later this month.

Square Enix has announced a new location-based Dragon Quest title for smartphones. In a similar vein to Pokémon GO, players will need to wander their surroundings to find encounters and quests.
