RPGamer Round-Up: July 24 – July 31

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous week. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

Monster Hunter Rise’s Sunbreak expansion is available now on PC and Switch. Phil Willis reports that it does a fine job of further elevating RPGamer’s 2021 Game of the Year.

After a rocky launch, the team behind Souldiers has, ahem, soldiered on. Pascal Tekaia notes that what awaits new players is an outstanding example of a Metroidvania action RPG, albeit not for the faint of heart.

Fallen Angel puts its best wing forward with engaging boss battles and enjoyable exploration. However, Ryan Costa finds that the Switch port suffers from performance issues that prevent it from greatness.

Square Enix has released Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent internationally. RPGamer was given the opportunity to put some questions about the game and its music to producer Hirohito Suzuki and composer Yasunori Nishiki.

The Dragoness: Command of the Flame is a turn-based tactical RPG heavily inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic. RPGamer was able to talk to developer Crazy Goat Games’ Janina Wojciechowska and Maciej Struzyna about the game ahead of its September launch.

Fire Emblem series creator Shouzou Kaga returns with a second title in his Vestaria Saga series. Alex Fuller reports that veterans of the former will readily find its appeal, though its challenge is likely to frustrate many who aren’t in that group.

Dusk Diver 2 makes its way to western consoles next month. Jon Jansen notes that its combat helps separate itself from its predecessor, but newcomers may need a bit of time to get up to speed with the plot.

 

 


Major News

CyberConnect2 revealed the first details and media for Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2. The game takes place a year after the first title and sees the children’s fight continue as they once again board a giant tank.

The 30-year-old Metal Max franchise has changed hands again. Cygames has acquired the IP from Kadokawa Games, though series creator Hiroshi Miyaoka will continue to work on it.

The mobile prequel to Octopath Traveler is now out internationally. Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is available as a free-to-play single-player title on iOS and Android.

Aquaplus announced a month-long delay for Utawarerumono spin-off Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten. The developer also introduced some new characters appearing in the game.

PQube and Crazy Goat Games’s strategy RPG The Dragoness: Command of the Flame is releasing in just over a month. The PC title is heavily inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic.

Eastasiasoft released a new trailer for Sword and Fairy: Together Forever ahead of its release next week. In addition, Serenity Forge detailed the game’s physical editions, which are expected to ship early next year.

Bandai Namco provided a few details on Digimon Survive ahead of its launch this week. The information covers its Karma system and how it relates to player choices and Digimon.
