Cygames Acquires Metal Max IP

Publisher and developer Cygames announced that it has acquired the Metal Max IP from Kadokawa Games. The deal will see series creator Hiroshi Miyaoka continuing to work on the series as a director. Cygames has not revealed any plans for upcoming titles, but has created a teaser website.

The Metal Max series began in 1991 with Famicom title Metal Max, developed by Crea-Tech. The main series is set in a post-apocalyptic open world with taking on missions in which they primarily use vehicles for its turn-based combat. Most of its games were only released in Japan, with the fifth game, Metal Saga, being the first released in North America on PlayStation 2 in 2006. The most recent mainline title — and only other title to get a western release — is Metal Max Xeno, which received a remake titled Metal Max Xeno: Reborn.
