RPGamer Round-Up: November 29 – December 6

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we take a look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous week. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our less regular visitors might have missed.

 


Editorial Content

Eleven years have passed since Demon’s Souls graced PS3s for the first time. Today it headlines Sony’s PS5 with a visual overhaul to match and Zack Webster reports back on how the experience stacks up.

A new protagonist appears! Move over Kazuma Kiryu, because Kasuga Ichiban has stolen the spotlight! Yakuza: Like a Dragon has a new kid in town, and Sam Wachter sees if he is ready to take on the reins of becoming the next dragon.

Players can now conquer the Tower of Fortune on Nintendo Switch or PC. Gabriele Malacasa finds the roguelike proves once again to be a challenging but enjoyable experience, with a few extra goodies added to the mix.

Some strikes are big hits, and others are misses. It all depends on the game being played. Michael Baker finds out whether Japan-only 3DS Monster Strike title is a swing and a miss, or a ten-pin slam.

Chronos: Before the Ashes is an action RPG in which players need to traverse a labyrinth by solving puzzles and killing enemies in order to face a dragon. Luis Mauricio discovers that while some games feature heroes growing older, this one handles the aging process rather differently.

Ryza returns to the protagonist role, with RPGamer was given the opportunity to check out Atelier Ryza 2 ahead of its release. In addition to checking out a PC build, we were also given the opportunity to interview Producer Junzo Hosoi about the game and what it brings to the series.

We play games for their story, graphics, and music, but what do we play when we need a pick-me-up? Erik, Ryan, William, Zack, Cassandra, and Andy each picked a game that made them feel good and wrote about it.


Major News

Omori has been in production since 2014, and will finally see its release at the end of December. The game is a psychological horror RPG that has players trying to find the secrets of the White Space.

The fifth entry in Rideon’s Mercenaries tactical RPG series is coming west. Circle Entertainment is releasing the game on Switch in just a couple of weeks.

Saddle up your Switch, pardner, to experience the beginning of the Boot Hill saga. Boot Hill Heroes is coming to the portable console in just two weeks.

Publisher The Irregular Corporation is teaming up with White Owls Inc. to publish The Good Life. The life simulation set in an English village where residents turn into cats and dogs will launch in the spring of 2021.

Shortly after a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is heading to Steam Early Access. NeocoreGames’ tactical RPG is expected to get a full release a few months afterwards.
