RPGamer Round-Up: February 6 – February 13

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous week, or in this case, two weeks. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

Stegosoft Games unleashes its second title with Rise of the Third Power. Anna Marie Privitere reports that the game is a prime example of a true throwback gem.

Rideon’s Mercenaries tactical RPG series gains its sixth entry with Mercenaries Rebirth: Call of the Wild Lynx. Alex Fuller finds that the game offers no surprises, but ably does what it sets out to.

Midgar Studio’s ambitious project Edge of Eternity looks great on the surface. However, a closer look from Jon Jansen uncovers the seams of this unrefined 90s-inspired JRPG.

RPGamer’s Matt Masem recently got a couple hours of hands-on time with Rune Factory 5. He finds that Marvelous does a great job faithfully reviving the series while making some small improvements along the way.

Gust returned to the Mysterious sub-series to follow the further adventures of Sophie Neuenmuller. RPGamer was able to ask producer Junzo Hosoi some questions ahead of Atelier Sophie 2’s release later this month.

February 2022’s Nintendo Direct for was pretty massive for RPG devotees. Jason McFadden takes a quick look at the nine significant titles that were revealed and what they will offer players.

Paul Shkreli is back to recap the end of his year-long saga to bust his backlog. Was he successful? Yes, even if his backlog is technically bigger today than it was a year ago. Read on to see what he’s been up to.

 


Major News

Nintendo and Monolith Soft unveiled the latest entry in the Xenoblade series. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will release worldwide this September.

28 years after its Japanese release, Live A Live is finally heading west. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch in the form of a HD-2D remake.

A remastered version of Chrono Cross is arriving this April. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will come with multiple enhancements as well as the previously Japan-only text adventure title Radical Dreamers.

Nintendo and Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force are partnering once again. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is an action RPG set in the universe of Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Front Mission is returning. Forever Entertainment is releasing remakes of the first two games in the mecha tactical RPG series.

During the Japanese Nintendo Direct, Marvelous announced LOOP8. The game is billed as a juvenile RPG that mixes everyday life with the extraordinary.

Ska Studios and Devoured Studios’ follow-up to Salt and Sanctuary has a release date. Salt and Sacrifice launches for PC, PS4, and PS5 in May.

RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter check-in feature returns again with a look at Yacht Club Games’ Mina the Hollower. The game is an action adventure inspired by Game Boy Color titles.
