RPGamer Round-Up: March 31 – April 14

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous couple of weeks. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

 

 


Editorial Content

Manga creator and character designer Akira Toriyama sadly passed away last month. The RPGamer staff put together some personal tributes on how his work has influenced and inspired them.

Japanese game designer and creator of the Suikoden series, Yoshitaka Murayama passed away back in February. These are the tributes provided by the RPGamer staff in memory of his creations and how his loss effects the gaming community.

After its foray into sci-fi, Vanillaware returns to fantasy with Unicorn Overlord. Ryan Costa reports that by blending together a wonderful presentation with a sense of pacing that fits all styles, this is a tactical RPG that shines brightly.

The formerly 3DS-exclusive FuRyu RPG comes to new consoles as The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered. Unfortunately, Matt Masem finds a little graphics bump does little to improve a still rather frustrating gameplay experience.

 

 

In days of yore did gamers bold delve too greedily and deep into the source code of adventure, bringing to this world a dungeon brimming with horrors hidden in the unknown. On the first day of this month, Michael Baker took a tongue-in-cheek look at The Dungeon of Moria.

Developer AdGlobe opened up Early Access for its latest side-scrolling RPG, Ender Magnolia. Ryan Radliff checked out the initial version and found a mixture of lovely visuals, bewitching melodies, frightful enemies, and secrets hiding in every nook and cranny.

Boasting a robust combat system, gorgeous graphics, and an excellent soundtrack, the Stellar Blade demo has plenty to impress. For Ezra Kinnell, the main question remaining is whether it fully sticks the landing.


Major News

Square Enix released a demo for SaGa Emerald Beyond as well as providing more details and images from the game. The latest update covers the story and characters involved with Diva No. 5, the protagonist available in the PC demo.

Atlus released new details and media for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. The update introduces more characters and gameplay elements ahead of the game’s June release.

Merge Games and RainyGames revealed release dates for SunnySide. The life sim will launch first for PC next month, with console versions following later in summer.

 

 

 

Some years after it was initially slated, Gestalt: Steam & Cinder has a release date. The 2D sidescrolling RPG will launch for PC in May.

Developer Fennec Studio announced Runa, a turn-based RPG inspired by various classic JRPGs. A Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the game will begin next week.

Raw Fury and High North Studios revealed a release date for SKALD: Against the Black Priory. The retro-styled cRPG will release for PC at the end of next month.

MegaCrit announced a follow-up to roguelike deckbuilder Slay the Spire. Slay the Spire 2 will release on Steam Early Access in 2025.

Square Enix’s latest Letter from the Producer presentation revealed the Benchmark for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will be available this weekend. In addition to testing their PC performance, players can try creating a female Hrothgar.
