Darkest Dungeon II Update Adding New Mode

During the Triple-i Initiative Showcase, Red Hook Studios announced that it will be releasing a major free update for Darkest Dungeon II. Planned to release later this year, the free update will add the new “Kingdoms” campaign mode, independent of the existing campaigns. This mode tasks players with defeating a new threat before it overwhelms the Kingdom, which is made up of a network of safe haven inns. Players venture across the Kingdom, earning resources to improve their heroes and the inns. The update will also add new The Coven, Beastmen, and Crimson Courtiers monster factions.

A follow-up to 2016 turn-based roguelike Darkest Dungeon, Darkest Dungeon II sees players tasked with guiding a stagecoach expedition across a decaying landscape to try and avert the apocalypse. The game features a refined version of the previous game’s combat with a new Token System. Each failed run grants resources that can be used on upgrades for future attempts. The game also includes an affinity system between party members, and players can learn more about their heroes’ backstories.
