Lost in the Open Demo Released

Indie developer Black Voyage Games has released a demo for the roguelike tactical RPG Lost in the Open for PC via Steam.  The developer’s debut title is described as a combination of Battle Brothers and FTL: Faster Than Light, with visuals inspired by medieval art. A release date has not been announced for the game as of this writing, but the Steam page lists a 2024 launch window.

Lost in the Open puts players in the role of Nrvesk, the tyrannical ruler of Ruedome, who is wounded in an assassination attempt during a meeting with neighboring country Stratha. Players must navigate the harsh environment, surviving by recruiting loyal bodyguards along the way while attempting to escape the pursuing Strathan soldiers.

Battles require a strategic approach, as enemies will attempt to pull units out of position to lure them into traps and flank the king. Node-based exploration offers narrative choices such as taking bribes or engaging in combat, as well as helping strangers with the possibility of reward or betrayal. The game features a randomized world, progression, and encounters, providing a different experience with each playthrough. Gold obtained from battles and exploration can be used to upgrade the party’s weapons and armor, while new skills and perks can be unlocked by gaining experience from battles.

I have been gaming since I received the Sega Master System as a young child, which was the first console I ever owned (Yes, I am that old). The game that got me into RPGs was Final Fantasy VIII, a game that I still adore to this day. My favorite RPG of all time, however, is Shadow Hearts on the PS2. I do have many other interests outside of gaming as well, such as watching old-school wrestling, Reading books, 80s movies.... or anything 80s related as a matter of fact.
