RPGamer Round-Up: September 10 – September 17

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous week. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

 


Editorial Content

Lies of P twists the existing tale of Pinocchio to its own dark and sordid ends. Pascal Tekaia reports that it emerges as a worthy newcomer to the Soulslike stage that might even be a new contender for the crown.

Nexon’s The First Descendant gets an open crossplay beta next week. RPGamer’s Alex Fuller was able to get an early look at the sci-fi co-op shooter RPG and report back on what awaits players.

A good dingus is sweet, yet spacey. Loveable but crazy. Sincere, yet clueless. RPGamer shares a few of their favourite space cases, and we’d love to know who are some of your favourites.


PAX West Impressions

The Persona franchise has been working its through various sub-genres. With Persona 5 Tactica it is now offering its take on turn-based tactics, and RPGamer was able to check a combat-focused demo at PAX West

Action RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink is fairly simple but has style in spades. RPGamer got the chance to take a look at this flashy and smooth title at PAX West.

Long Gone Days is a narrative RPG that tries tackling language barriers, war, and human connection. RPGamer got the chance to take a look at how the turn-based RPG is shaping up at PAX West.

Demonschool is a fun movement-based tactical RPG that has been on the horizon for a while now. RPGamer got to see some new features and a revamped user interface that makes the game more approachable at PAX West.

Can Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader be the cRPG that franchise fans have been looking for? It’s looking possible under the stewardship of Owlcat Games and RPGamer was able to see how it’s looking in a PAX West preview.

In a bit of a rarity Phantom Rose 2 Sapphire hits both being a roguelike deckbuilder sequel, as well as one that focuses on cooldowns instead of drawing cards. RPGamer sees how the gameplay is shaping up in this PAX West demo.

With a quick turnaround roguelite Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch looks to capitalize on a snappier tactical-turn based combat. RPGamer takes a look at how this world is shaping up in a PAX West demo.

 

 

PAX West isn’t just for unreleased titles. Phantom Brigade went a little under the radar when it released earlier this year, but RPGamer got to see that this title has a unique combat system.

Zoria: Age of Shattering looks to bring something different to party-based cRPGs. In this PAX West demo, RPGamer sees that combat is fast-paced and enjoyable.

Who killed the professor? Hopefully it isn’t the accused arcanoid Eve, as her personality and design shines through in murder mystery visual novel EDEN.schemata();. RPGamer took a look at its time-looping mystery at PAX West.

Part photographic monster tamer, part psychological visual novel. There’s a lot to Project Anomaly: Urban Supernatural Investigator and RPGamer gets the chance to find out what it’s about at PAX West.

Fans of old school explorative first-person dungeon crawlers have an upcoming title to consider. Dread Delusion looks to fill that niche, and RPGamer got a chance to check out a demo at PAX West.

Part metroidvania and part cooking title, Magical Delicacy is a light-hearted mystical world with plenty of cooking options. RPGamer got the chance to take a look at how the game is simmering with its PAX West demo.

What is a psychological visual novel? Is it a laid back resort or a deep dive into technological overlords? Why not both; that’s what Roman Sands RE:Build is setting out to do as RPGamer takes a look at its trippy PAX West demo.

A thirsty world tree pal? Check. A basket on the protagonist’s head? Check. A goofy physics crafting and survival sim called Dropkick Navvy: First Step to relax with while at PAX West? Check.

 


Major News

Square Enix announced a release date and unveiled a busy new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The second part of the Final Fantasy VII retelling will arrive at the end of February.

Atlus and Vanillaware have announced the developer’s latest title. Unicorn Overlord is a fantasy tactical RPG and is set to launch in March.

Bandai Namco marked the second anniversary of Tales of Arise by announcing a DLC expansion. Beyond the Dawn takes place a year after the main game’s events and is set to release in November.

505 Games has announced the release date for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. The JRPG from the original Suikoden director arrives early next year.

Square Enix has revealed SaGa Emerald Beyond. This new entry in the long running SaGa series is planned to launch next year.

Nintendo has revealed that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is coming to Switch in 2024. RPGamer’s can check out the first trailer for this full graphical remaster.

Owlcat Games announced a December release date for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. The game will launch simultaneously on PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Stray Children was revealed during this week’s Japanese Nintendo Direct. This latest RPG from Onion Games will also be coming to the west.
