RPGamer Round-Up: August 21 – August 28

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous week. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

Monolith Soft returns with another title in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Alex Fuller reports that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 certainly doesn’t disappoint as the studio takes full advance of both its ambition and maturity.

Square Enix’s Live A Live melds various gameplay and storytelling elements across a variety of scenarios. With its new remake giving it the chance to acquaint itself with modern audiences, the game proves to have stood the test of time in the eyes of Ryan Costa.

Digimon Survive blends visual novel adventure with strategic combat. Though it’s exploration and sporadic battles fail to impress Luis Mauricio, strong art and a superb story help raise it up.

Dusk Diver 2 is an anime-inspired action RPG that has some addicting elements. However, Jon Jansen finds its lack of combat variety and meandering story don’t pack a big punch.

Wild Bunch Productions and Yukikaze announced titles Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood, as well as a joint Kickstarter campaign. RPGamer was given the opportunity to put some questions to the development teams about the projects.

 


Major News

The creators behind the Wild ARMs and Shadow Hearts series have announced spiritual successors. Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood will undergo a joint Kickstarter campaign starting on Monday.

Square Enix provided more details and media for three upcoming RPGs. RPGamers can learn more about Tactics Ogre: Reborn, Harvestella, and Valkyrie Elysium ahead of their releases later this year.

Nippon Ichi has announced Disgaea 7, the latest entry in the zany strategy RPG series. The game is heading to Switch, PS4, and PS5 in Japan early in 2023.

Sega announced the titles coming with its Genesis Mini 2 console this October. The North American and European versions include a trio of Shining titles, plus Phantasy Star II and Warsong.

Where Winds Meet is a title from Chinese developer Everstone Studio. The open-world action adventure RPG will take players to a version of 9th century CE China.

Destiny 2 is going neon. Its newly-revealed Lightfall expansion will take players to the capital city of Neptune, where they will take on the returning Cabal emperor Calus.

Focus Entertainment and Deck13 Interactive unveiled Atlas Fallen. The action RPG has players hunting down legendary monsters in a timeless, sand-filled land.
