Valkyrie Elysium Gets New Details, Screenshots

Square Enix released new details and screenshots for upcoming action RPG Valkyrie Elysium. The new update introduces some additional characters, as well as additional information about the game’s combat.

Armand, voiced by Harry McEntire, is a human who the main protagonist, known simply as Valkyrie, encounters in Midgard. He is searching for something, but doesn’t seem to know precisely what it is. Meanwhile, the game will include the return of Einherjar. These are spirits that serve Valkyrie, fighting alongside and supporting her in battle. Kristoffer is an Einherjar who specialises in combat as was thep rincess of South Lucarda prior to her death, while Taika wields magic and previously used it to protect her motherland.

The combat sees Valkyrie building up her soul gauge to summon Einherjar by collecting items or blue souls. A summoned Einherjar adds their elemental properties to Valkyrie’s attacks to strengthen them. In addition, Valkyrie can learn special attacks called Divine Arts from scrolls found in treasure chests. Divine Arts can be equipped and use up part of the arts gauge, which is filled by doing combos. They each have their own element, which players can use to exploit enemy weaknesses, with the game having Fire, Lightning, Ice, Earth, Holy, Void, and Darkness elements. Valkyrie also has access to a Soul Chain, which effectively acts a grappling hook that she can use to travel distances, including towards enemies, quickly.

Players can equip two weapons simultaneously, which can be swapped. Weapons can have their level increased, increasing their power or unlocking new abilities. At a certain level, weapons can also have runes attached to them, further increasing their power. Valkyrie can also learn a variety of abilities and actions, which can be customised. She can go to a training ground called Vingolf to summon preivously defeated enemies and train or try out new abilities against them.

A new title in the Valkyrie series, Valkyrie Elysium follows a young Valkyrie entrusted with the fate of the world. She is tasked by the All-Father, ruler of the gods, with stopping Ragnarok and the destruction of the world. Valkyrie Elysium will release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on September 29, 2022, with a PC version following on November 11, 2022. In addition, Square Enix is releasing a port of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, the PlayStation Portable remaster of the first Valkyrie Profile game, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on September 29, 2022.
