Spoiler Warning: Memorable Moments from the Last 20 Years

As part of RPGamer’s twentieth anniversary celebrations, which have been kicked off with the launch of our brand new site, we also wanted to take a look back at some of the times that RPGs have really left their mark on us. To do that, the staff members were invited to come up with and write about some of their most memorable moments from RPGs that have been released during the site’s tenure, and we have collected plenty of stories about those moments and what impacts they had on the game as a whole as well as our writers themselves.

We hope you enjoy our reminiscing about some of the great titles that we have had the pleasure of covering over the years, and would be delighted to hear from our readers about any memorable moments from RPGs that you’d like to share with us. We certainly aren’t even close to covering every RPG with memorable moments and would be delighted to hear your own suggestions and stories on our forums (though please make liberal use of the dedicated spoiler button!).

Okay, I’ll admit that the “best” ending to Suikoden 2 made me cry. Especially since I had to go through the game THREE times before I got it right. Very aggravating.

On the other hand, there’s nothing in Final Fantasy 9 that made me feel a thing. Oh, no! Dagger/Sarah/Garnet/UselessPartyMember cut her hair! Oh, no! An overused, tired, cliche’ trope about clones is being used for the umpteenth time! Oh, no! We have to stop Death or everyone will die! Oh, no! The ugly spear-wielding chick that I can’t stand had a line of dialogue and I don’t care! Oh, no! The only character with any quasi-decent backstory is the fat dude in armor and his story was over sixty hours before I finished the game! Oh, no! TWO, count them, TWO stories in the same game with more, (please don’t say it… NOOOO) CLONES!

  2. I really wanted to at least hint at how some of the crazier stuff in Bravely Default ties into Bravely Second. At least something to do with a certain sorta familiar fairy.

I honestly do not know how the personas are not up there. Or star ocean 2 that had so many memorable moments. Also final fantasy 6 wow so MANY . Kefka poisoning Doma to this day gets me pissed off. i do agree on suikoden 2 though.

  4. In the case of FF6, it’s easily enough explained: “Spoiler moments from the last –20– years.”

    It’s past the cutoff date.

I was going to say the moment when Red XIII finds out the truth about his “coward” of a father Seta, but since FF7 was released in 1997, it would be past the cutoff date as well.

I searched the whole tower & can’t find the secret stairway that leads further in. I need help with this. I really like this game. This comment is looking for an answer to game Dragon Warrior BANQ. Where is the secret stairway or where do you find out it’s location?
