RPGamer Round-Up: April 20 – April 27

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the intervening period. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

Those hoping for a new turn-based franchise to rival the presentational prowess of the larger studios don’t have to wait any longer. Ryan Costa reports that Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 bursts on to the scene in a big way.

Grifford Academy is a turn-based coming-of-age RPG from LandShark Games. Ahead of its planned Early Access release later this year, RPGamer was able to chat to developers Kim Naylor and Paul Naylor and learn lots about the game.

Leila is a beautiful point-and-click narrative game about self-reflection and appreciating the struggles we overcome in our lives. Amaan Bhimani sees whether it breaks new ground.


Major News

Bethesda has returned to Cyrodiil. A remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, created in partnership with Virtuos, is out right now.

Ahead of the game’s 25th anniversary this weekend, Breath of Fire IV is now available on GOG.com. The release is part of the GOG Preservation Program and marks the first PC release for the game in North America.

Awaken Realms and Questline have provided a firm date for Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon’s full release. The open-world RPG will launch on PC and consoles in just under a month.

 

 

Bandai Namco announced that Super Robot Wars Y will release internationally in August. The company provided an updated list of included series and films in the crossover tactical RPG, which is now available to pre-order.

Publisher FuRyu announced turn-based RPG Varlet, will be releasing internationally this August. The game puts players in control of a high school student fighting glitches in the school’s cross-reality network.

Nintendo has added Game Boy Advance title Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones to Nintendo Switch Online. Like other GBA titles, the tactical RPG is available to those who have the Expansion Pack membership option.

Atlus and Sega announced that their lectures from this year’s GDC are available to watch for free. The trio of lectures cover development of Metaphor: ReFantazio and the Like a Dragon series.

The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- creators Kazutaka Kodaka and Kotaro Uchikoshi took part in an interview answering various submitted questions from around the world. The first three parts of the five-part interview are available now.

Square Enix released a hefty batch of screenshots for the upcoming Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster. The images come with a basic overview of the game and its main features.

Dragonwell Publishing announced that the novelisation of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is getting an audiobook. In addition, there will be a collection of side stories and a cookbook, along with a special Collector’s Set containing all three.
