Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column, we look to provide our readers with details on the major RPGs released in the last week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development. Pricing is shown in US dollars before application of any discounts, local pricing may vary.

Retro-styled action RPG 9th Dawn Remake is a remake of the first game in 9th Dawn series. It is set on the island of Montelorne, where players assume the role of an adventurer who searches for hidden treasures and helps the Montelornians in need while facing the threat posed by rising undead armies. Players can choose from a variety of classes for their character, each with its own playstyle. The remake features 2.5D graphics, a first-person mode, remade dungeons, a rewritten story, two new mini-games, two-player online and local co-op, and more.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in a world where, once a year, a being called the Paintress wakes and paints a cursed number upon a monolith, which causes everyone of that age to turn to smoke and disappear. Players join Gustave and other members of an expedition that sets out, in the footsteps of previous failed expeditions, to try and end the cycle of death once and for all. Combat allows players to dodge, parry, and counter in real time. Maliki: Poison of the Past

Turn-based RPG Maliki: Poison of the Past is set in the near future, where humanity is on the edge of extinction after being subjugated by Poison, a plant monster able to alter the space-time continuum. The pink-haired Maliki leads a handful of survivors from the Domain, a haven outside of time. The game features turn-based combat and puzzles with time-manipulation elements, as well as letting players plant, harvest, cook, and nurture the Thousand Roots Tree back at the Domain.
Metro Quester

Retro dungeon-crawling RPG Metro Quester is intended to be reminiscent of 1980s video games and is set in a world designed by manga artist Kazushi Hagiwara (Bastard!!), with game design from Hironori Kato (Dark Souls and Elden Ring tabletop RPGs). It sees players explore desolate dungeons in Tokyo that contain breakable walls, creature nests, resources, and vaults. Loot can either be equipped or broken down for resources. Each turn, party members and enemies can select up to three actions depending on their current action points. Players need to utilise the displayed turn-order and the enemy Hate values that determine their targets to help manage character roles.

Billed as a strange and eerie psychological card-based RPG, Out of Hands puts players in a dreamscape taking on the role of a protagonist grappling with the death of a loved one. It takes them to nightmares where reality, memory, and emotion blur together in unsettling ways, with each of the four nightmares including side quests and map exploration. The game uses real video footage cut into collages with card-game combat where players use their deck to counter enemy attacks while attempting to strike them down in return. An additional replayable challenge mode is planned to be added in June.
Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero

A sequel to Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle, tactical RPG Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero is set in the oceanic world of Ivoire. As Marona and Ash return home from a regular job, they are attacked by the ghost ships of the Shipwreck Fleet, during which Marona’s powers are stolen by a masked man and she and Ash are separated. After washing ashore, Marona encounters a Phantom girl named Apricot who agrees to help her fight the new threat that looms over the seas of Ivoire. Rise of Rebellion

Rise of Rebellion is a 3D action RPG based on sword melee combat. The game is set in a fantasy world where dragons have gone extinct, with players controlling a warrior able to make use of a special energy, fighting to reclaim their hometown. Players will need to break enemy guards and make use of combo abilities.
Starless Abyss
Starless Abyss is an Eldritch-themed deckbuilder. The game puts players in the role of a “Proxima”, held in stasis for years by Counter Horror, an agency formed to defeat the Outer Gods that ripped through space and caused the fall of Earth. Players command a fleet of ships through battle across the universe. Successful missions grant new upgrade artifacts, D.I.C.E that help in pivotal moments between missions, and cards from different factions. However, as players get closer to the ultimate deities, their Proxima loses more of their sanity.
Sunderfolk

Tabletop-inspired tactical adventure Sunderfolk is built around couch co-op and sees players using a dedicated phone app to control the game. Players select one of six classes before taking on missions in the Sunderlands. Combat is turn-based but has no set turn-order, with new enemies appearing each turn. Between missions, players improve their home village, unlocking new facilities and bonuses.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Open-world RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion originally released for PC and Xbox 360 in 2006, with a PlayStation 3 version released in 2007. It takes place in the province of Cyrodiil on the continent of Tamriel. Players control a customised character who starts off as a prisoner in the Imperial City, but is swiftly tasked with helping prevent the destruction of Cyrodiil. The remastered version features refined gameplay and upgraded visuals, including updates to the game’s leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, in-game menus, and more.
The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-

The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- is a new title from Kazutaka Kodaka and Kotaro Uchikoshi, the creators of the Danganronpa and Zero Escape series respectively, and combines adventure elements with strategy RPG combat. The game sees supposedly unremarkable student Takumi Sumino forced to transfer to the eponymous Last Defense Academy. Between battles, players can explore the school and deepen their bonds with classmates, while the story will feature numerous choices for Takumi that can lead to different endings.
