RPGamer Round-Up: August 4 – August 11

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous week. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed. Please note there will likely not be an article next week.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are sewer surfing for trouble as they search to rescue Splinter in this action roguelike, which recently arrived on Switch. Paul Shkreli determines that fans of the turtles and roguelikes are in for a shell of a good time.

The 1990s were a beautiful time for frenetic cartoons, colorful characters, and vampire-slaying, and here’s a game that brings all this together with new-2020s sensibilities and humor. Michael Baker reports that it’s a bloody good time.

Sam Enright’s second title, Beyond Galaxyland, is set to launch later this year. RPGamer was able to check out a new demo build covering the first few hours of the game.


Major News

CrossCode developer Radical Fish Games revealed Alabaster Dawn. The top-down 2.5D action RPG follows Juno as she attempts to restore the ruined world of Tiran Sol.

Square Enix announced a new physical release for its Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection. The collection will arrive through retail channels in October.

Publisher Microsoft announced that Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed is delayed. Originally set to release in fall 2024, the first-person fantasy action RPG will launch in February 2025 for PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Operaludica revealed that turn-based fantasy RPG Dragonero: The Rise of Draquir is coming to PC next month. The game is based on the Dragonero Italian comic series by Sergio Bonelli Editore.

Nintendo released a six-minute trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. The video shows many of the sights Zelda will see and methods she will use as she traverses through Hyrule.

Square Enix revealed new details and screenshots for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The update covers new story episodes following Ortega’s adventure as well as some of the locations players will visit.

Wolfeye Studios announced that it is working on a new RPG project, with a private alpha test planned for next year. The retro sci-fi action RPG is inspired by titles such as Dishonored and Prey.

Nexon revealed that Neople’s action RPG The First Berserker: Khazan will launch next year. The company also released fifteen minutes of gameplay footage and a behind the scenes video.
