Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Shows Story Episodes, Locations

Square Enix released new details and screenshots for the upcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The update covers additional story episodes included in the remake as well as some of the varied locations players will visit in the game.

The remake’s new story scenes follow the protagonist’s father, the hero Ortega. He set on a quest the Archfiend Baramos, leaving behind his wife and child. However, he met his end after falling into a volcano during a climactic battle. The new scenes show parts of Ortega’s quest, giving players a greater understanding of his character. In addition, the game will include new enemies and bosses for players to face.

The game will take players across different regions, each with their own culture and traditions. Some of the regions include Portoga, a seafaring nation and key trading spot where visitors can learn more about the world at large; Jipang, a small island nation with cherry blossom trees and rice paddies; and Ibis, a desert kingdom ruled by a queen of famed beauty. Other places include a village populated by fairies, as well as various dungeons that will see the party pushing boulders or walking on tightropes.

Dragon Quest III begins in the kingdom of Aliahan, with players controlling the son or daughter of Ortega. On their sixteenth birthday, they are given an order by the king to complete their father’s quest and slay the Archfiend Baramos. The game is the third title in the connected Erdrick saga, but takes place prior to the events of its predecessors, with the other two games set to release as Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake next year. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will release on November 14, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
