RPGamer Round-Up: November 20 – November 27

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous week. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

Winter has finally arrived, it’s time for warm blankets, hot beverages, and some cozy video games. The RPGamer staff shares some of its favourite “cozy” games that we feel you should check out this holiday season.

Asymmetric Publications returns to the Loathing universe with Shadows Over Loathing. Alex Fuller reports that its Eldritch version of 1920s America comes with plenty of humourous strangeness, but also an appreciable depth of exploration and puzzle-solving.

Star Ocean has made its return with Star Ocean: The Divine Force. Jon Jansen finds that its attempts to revitalise the series are mixed in their effectiveness.

Necrosoft Games’s Demonschool is a tactical RPG with heavy inspirations from Persona and Italian horror. RPGamer’s Ryan Costa was able to check out an early demo build of the game, which is planned to launch next year.


Major News

Nintendo released a new gameplay trailer for Fire Emblem Engage. The video showcases the Emblem Rings, highlighting their effects and more of the heroes they summon.

NIS America revealed its VR platform support for The Legend of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie’s two beachy side scenarios. While the content will be available on all platforms, only PC and PS4 players will be able to experience it in VR.

A2 Softworks announced a release date for Gatewalkers. The co-op survival action RPG will launch for PC and Mac in January.

The Outbound Ghost is arriving on consoles next week. In addition, publisher Digerati and developer Conradical Games detailed planned updates for the adventure RPG.

Eastasiasoft’s latest announcement elicited some reactions from certain RPGamer staff members. The publisher is bringing Compile Heart’s Mugen Souls to Switch in spring.
