More Dragon Quest X Offline Details Revealed

Square Enix released new details and screenshots for the upcoming Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline, its upcoming single-player version of MMORPG Dragon Quest X. The update provides more information about the protagonist, combat system, and party members in the game.

The protagonist in Dragon Quest X Offline is one of two human siblings living in the village of Etene, with players able to customise both siblings. The player character soon dies, but their soul is placed into the body of another person who died at the same time, from one of five different races: Ogres, the fire people; Poppets, the flower people; Elves, the wind people; Wetlings, the water people; or Dwarves, the earth people.

Combat in Dragon Quest X Offline is turn-based using the series’ traditional command-based battle system. Battles are initiated when the player comes into contact with an enemy in the fields and dungeons. Players control a party of up to four characters with the ability to let AI control using basic tactics and an option to let AI take control for a single turn.

The game features six base classes: Warrior, Priest, Mage, Martial Artist, Thief, and Minstrel. The Warrior has high attack, defence, and HP and can use one-handed swords, two-handed swords, axes, and shields. The Priest is geared for healing and support and can use spears, sticks, staffs, and shields. The Mage is good with offensive magic and can use heavy wands, daggers, whips, and shields. The Martial Artist has high attack and agility for fast strikes and can use claws, staffs, and fans. The Thief is good at collecting items, has high attack, and can use daggers, whips, and claws. The Minstrel is an adaptable all-round class that can use fans, staffs, daggers, and shields. As players progress, they can unlock new advanced classes.

Dragon Quest X Offline features five party members who join the protagonist after receiving a divine revelation. Players can swap out which three of the five companions are in the party at any time. Maille is an ogre martial artist who has trained in the snowy village of Rangao since childhood and has a cheerful personality. Ragus is the Prince of the Megistris Kingdom. He has stayed locked in his room but has a strong desire to help lead his country.

Fuura is the daughter of the lord of the wind town Azlan. She caries around a doll that reminds her of her late mother. Fuser is a Wetling who grew up in an orphanage and is a skilled swordsman looking to make a name for himself. Finally, Dasuton is the lord of “Junk Castle” in the mountain city of Gatara. He loves collecting junk with his assistant.

Dragon Quest X Offline will release in Japan on February 26, 2022. The game will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Those who purchase the game on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free. The expansion The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Ally — based on the MMORPG’s first expansion of the same name — will be released in spring 2022. No announcement has been made regarding a possible western release for Dragon Quest X Offline.
