While I’m not sure of prevalent the problem of poorly paced RPGs are in this day and age, I do think having shorter RPGs would be nice. I suppose there are indie RPGs for that.
Bit harsh to sweepingly say modern RPGs are paced poorly – Tales games have always been bloated – but I do feel sometimes there is too much emphasis on “value for money” when it’s actually just content that most players won’t see.
As a side point, I’ve spent most of my gaming time this year playing CrossCode. It’s a good game, but it’s far, far too long, to the point where I have now dropped it and I’m not sure I’ll ever finish it. And I hate not finishing games. But no 2D Zelda like should stretch beyond 10-20hrs IMO – and preferably at the lower end of that.
