Nihon Falcom announced that the latest entry in the Legend of Heroes series, The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki, will launch in Japan on September 30, 2021. The game will release for PlayStation 4. In addition, the company provided new screenshots for the game, introducing two more characters and showcasing special attacks for a number of previously revealed characters.

The first new character is Judith Ranster. She is 22 and one of the top actresses in the growing Orbal cinema industry. However, she also has a secret side job. The other character is Bergard Zeman. Aged 69, he is a master of the Kunlun style martial art and a former mentor to protagonist Van. He has retired and abandoned his original name in order to enjoy travelling.

The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki takes place a year after the events of the previous title, Hajimari no Kiseki, and two years after the events of Trails of Cold Steel III and Trails of Cold Steel IV. The game is set in the diverse Calvard Republic, the eastern neighbour and superpower rival to the Erebonian Empire that was the setting for the Trails of Cold Steel subseries.
