Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Global Closed Beta Announced

Sega announced a global closed beta test for the upcoming MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. Details about the global beta test, including dates, were not announced. Meanwhile, a second closed beta test is ongoing for PC in Japan this weekend for 50,000 players of Phantasy Star Online 2.

The closed beta tests were announced as part of a presentation for the game, during which Sega showed off some new gameplay footage from the Japanese beta test’s contents. The full presentation, hosted by Yuki Iwai and Mizuho Habu with Sega’s Hiro Arai, can be viewed below with English dubbed audio and text.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is a new game that will run alongside Phantasy Star Online 2, with both games being free-to-play MMORPGs. It will offer players a brand-new adventure taking place “1,000 years after Oracle’s battle”. Player characters will be able to switch between the two games, with the core Phantasy Star Online 2 graphics to be overhauled to work with the enhanced New Genesis options. However, character growth such as levels, experience, and skills cannot be carried over.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is currently planned for release in 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows 10 in North America, and for PC and PlayStation 4 in Japan. Japan will also receive cloud versions for Nintendo Switch and PC.
