Yakuza: Like a Dragon Adds Dungeons

Sega released some more information and images for Yakuza: Like a Dragon detailing the Sotenbori Battle Arena as well as underground dungeons appearing in the game to go alongside its new turn-based combat system. The Sotenbori Battle Arena is an event being held at a building currently undergoing construction in Osaka. Here, the party is challenged with advancing up its thirty floors, having to overcome strong enemies before progressing to the next floor.

Unlike regular battles, fights in the Sotenbori Battle Arena will come with special rules, such as the party constantly receiving poison damage. Players will receive special and rare rewards for defeating enemies and advancing floors, and the tough enemies make it an ideal location to level up party members.

Meanwhile, in the regular story, there will be many times where protagonist Ichiban Kasuga and his allies need to use underground passages to get into enemy locations. These passages act as dungeons, and will include enemies and treasure chests in the form of attache cases. These cases will have random items, so players can repeat dungeons to level up or attempt to gain different items. Dungeons will include unique enemies not found in the city above, and will also include safes that require keys to open. Though most safes will provide useful and rare items, some may instead have enemies lurking inside. Dungeons also feature special bosses at the end, with one example shown being an excavator.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the newest title in the series and is known as Yakuza 7 in Japan. The game stars a new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, and features the new area of Isezaki Ijincho in the city of Yokohama. It is set to be released for PlayStation 4 in Japan on January 16, 2020, with a western release coming sometime later in 2020.
