More Yakuza: Like a Dragon Information Revealed

Sega revealed new information and screenshots for Yakuza: Like a Dragon regarding collecting currency, side quests, and how to summon characters. Known simply as Yakuza 7 in Japan, the game is scheduled to release in Japan on January 16, 2020, with a western release coming later in 2020. A demo is currently available on the PlayStation Store in Japan.

The protagonist Ichiban Kasuga starts off broke and will need to search in and around vending machines for loose change and items. He can also hop on a bike and collect empty cans which he can turn in for items. The mini-game comes with a boost state where Kasuga can collect special drinks scattered around the map for speed boosts to help avoid vehicles, crash into his homeless competition to steal their cans, and to reach the goal in the allotted time for a high score.

The part-time job quests allow Kasuga to register at a website where he can choose from a list of quests, such as animal rescue, beating specific targets, or item deliveries. Quests are divided into the support, rescue, and challenge categories and completing them will result in earning Membership Points, which allow Kasuga’s rank to increase. Reaching higher ranks will cause higher difficulty quests with better rewards to appear.

Like a Dragon also introduces a summon mode in the form of Delivery Help. Kasuga can spend a certain amount of money to summon powerful characters to assist him in fights. More characters will become available as Kasuga clears more of the game’s sub-stories. One newly-revealed character, Jay-san, bears a strong resemblance to a certain horror movie character, walking around with a meat cleaver while wearing a hockey mask. Jay-san is a costly summon, but he deals major damage to enemies and leaves them with the Nervous status ailment.
