More Monster Hunter: World Iceborne Details Announced

Capcom posted a new developer update video for its upcoming Iceborne expansion to action RPG Monster Hunter: World. The hour-long update also saw the launch of a new trailer focusing on the story behind Velkhana, a new Elder Dragon making its debut in the expansion.

Iceborne will include multiple new monsters, with two more confirmed to appear in the expansion. The first is the brute wyvern Brachydios, a returning monster for the series that uses explosive slime attacks. The second is another new Elder Dragon named Namielle, which uses powerful water-based attacks. There was also the reveal that Velkhana’s ice breath attacks can create frozen pillars on the battlefield, which hunters can use to their advantage.

A free update will gift all players a set of Guardian Armor on September 4, 2019. This is an upgradeable set designed to assist new hunters and help them progress through the main story to get to the Iceborne content. The game will also get a new Hunter Helper feature. This is designed to encourage players to help others and will reward those who assist hunters of lower rank with exclusive in-game Pendants and Trophies.

Following the developer update, Capcom has also revealed that Monster Hunter: World Iceborne will have a collaboration with Horizon Zero Dawn‘s The Frozen Wilds expansion. The collaboration will be available on September 6, 2019, exclusively on PlayStation 4, and let players control Horizon Zero Dawn‘s protagonist Aloy.

Iceborne takes players to the frozen region of Hoarfrost Reach. In addition to the new area, Iceborne will include higher-difficulty Master Rank quests, new foes, and new abilities and tactical options. The expansion will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2019, with a PC release to follow sometime in the winter. Those who already own Monster Hunter: World will be able to purchase the expansion digitally for $39.99/€39.99, while a bundle containing the expansion and Deluxe Kit DLC of cosmetic items will be available for $49.99/€49.99. For those who do not own the base game, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition that includes the base game and the Iceborne expansion will be available physically and digitally for $59.99/€59.99.
