Kinda Funny Games Showcases Plenty of Indie RPGs

As part of its showcase video, Kinda Funny Games briefly highlighted a large selection of upcoming indie RPGs. The video teasers for the games came in three batches during the presentation, which are marked as the beginning point in the embedded videos below.

The first batch features Disco Elysium, Slay the Spire, Fae Tactics, and Ikenfell. Disco Elysium is a combination of a hard-boiled cop show with a sci-fi and fantasy setting where players take on the role of a disgraced police lieutenant in the seaside town of Revachol. Slay the Spire is a hybrid between a roguelike and deckbuilding card game. Fae Tactics is a strategy RPG that looks at a growing conflict in a fantasy world between humans and magical beings known as fae. Ikenfell is a sprite-art turn-based RPG with timing combat mechanics set in a magic school. All four games are scheduled for release on PC in 2019, with Slay the Spire also set to be released on Nintendo Switch.

The second set of titles consists of Dawnthorn, Boyfriend Dungeon, and Virgo vs. the Zodiac, along with a selection of other adventure titles. Dawnthorn is a standalone prequel to upcoming title Hazelnut Bastille and is set for release on PC, Mac, Linux in spring 2019, with qualifying Kickstarter backers of Hazelnut Bastille receiving a copy. Boyfriend Dungeon is a dungeon-crawling action RPG where the player’s weapons transform into people, whom players can take on dates and grow their relationships. Boyfriend Dungeon is planned for release on PC, Mac, and Linux in late 2019. Virgo vs. the Zodiac is a turn-based RPG with timing mechanics that puts players in the role of a villain obsessed with bringing back a golden age. The game is set to be released for PC and Xbox One in 2019, although the video erroneously states the game is available now.

The third and final batch includes Tunche and It Lurks Below. Tunche is a co-op beat-em-up with roguelike elements that sees players exploring an Amazonian jungle. The game features multiplayer for up to four players and is set to receive a Kickstarter campaign on January 14, 2019, with releases planned for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It Lurks Below is a pixel-art action RPG with randomised dungeons and loot, and is available now on Steam Early Access.
