Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics Gets Gameplay Video

Ripstone Games has offered some gameplay footage for Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics. The nine-minute video is narrated by Thomas Rawling, Design Director at Auroch Digital, and gives viewers a look at the game’s opening mission.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics takes places during World War II as the Allies engage Nazi armies. The game offers a what-if story where the Nazis look to utilise black arts, their knowledge of the occult, and other supernatural phenomena to try and turn the tide of the war. Players control a special unit called the Charlie Company who are tasked to investigate.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a turn-based strategy RPG. Maps are covered in a fog of war the game labels as the shroud. Playable characters have special charms that ward off the shroud’s darkness and as they move, the fog gets lifted. Enemies hiding in the shroud have their stats hidden until a player character moves close enough to reveal that portion of the map. Accuracy, distance, and cover will all play important parts in victories on the battlefield. Rawlings goes on to explain that units left in the open would have no cover and thus be vulnerable to enemy fire.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. There has been no update on an exact release date outside of later this year. The game is an adaptation of the tabletop RPG Achtung! Cthulhu and underwent a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.
