Destiny 2 Begins Its New Fate Saga

Bungie has announced its plans for the next year of content for shooter RPG Destiny 2. Dubbed the “Year of Prophecy”, the upcoming content starts a new multi-year story saga for the game — the Fate Saga — and includes two paid expansions plus a number of free updates, beginning with the Rise of the Nine event, which is available now. The full list of revealed content is as follows:

  • Rite of the Nine event: available now
  • Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate paid expansion: releasing July 15, 2025
  • Core game free updates: releasing July 15, 2025
  • Ash & Iron free major update: releasing September 9, 2025
  • Destiny 2: Renegades paid expansion: releasing December 2, 2025
  • Shadow & Order free major update: releasing March 3, 2026

Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate introduces the Nine, powerful beings that existed long before the Traveler, and sees players taking on a new threat predating their knowledge of the past. It involves two major characters: new ally Lodi, who hails from a distant location, and the legendary Warlock Vanguard Ikora. The expansion will take players to the new location of Kepler, which is said to be “inspired by the puzzle-solving and pathfinding challenges” of Destiny 2’s dungeons and to encourage exploration. Dark matter energy is a key element of Kepler, granting new abilities to players. These include the Matterspark ability, which lets them change forms to squeeze through spaces or dash across terrain; the Relocator Cannon, which lets them teleport across the environment; and Mattermorph, which lets them manipulate their surroundings.

Meanwhile, Destiny 2: Renegades is a Star Wars-inspired expansion. Few details have been revealed, but it will continue the Fate Saga story with new characters, activities, and mechanics. Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate is available to pre-order digitally now, including in some bundles that also contain access to Destiny 2: Renegades and a variety of in-game content and bonuses. A Destiny 2: Year of Prophecy Collector’s Edition, which includes a selection of physical items, is also available to pre-order for $275 from Bungie’s online store.
