New Release Round-Up (August 10, 2023)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Atlas Fallen

Action RPG Atlas Fallen is set in a timeless, sand-filled land with a semi-open world. After finding a special gauntlet artifact, players become able to fight back against the oppression laid out across the people of Atlas in the name of Thelos the sun god. The game is playable in both single-player and two-player cooperative modes.


Banchou Tactics

Banchou Tactics is inspired by the Crows manga, River City Ransom, and Final Fantasy Tactics and follows a conflict between high school delinquents. It is set around the fights between students of Sakae High School, Nakamura Technical High School, and Minato High School. The game stars Taiga Arashi of Minato High School and takes place after the graduation of Kitagawa Seiichi, the “demon king” of Minato High School, which causes a power struggle between the three schools.


Deathbulge: Battle of the Bands

Deathbulge: Battle of the Bands is based around a deadly battle of the bands contest where entrants attack each other with music. Players can customise their band from nine music-themed classes, with the game’s combat featuring a mix of real-time and turn-based elements. The game underwent a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign in 2019.


Rainbow Skies

Platform: Nintendo Switch (previously released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita)

Tactical RPG Rainbow Skies is a sequel to 2012’s Rainbow Moon and originally released for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita in 2018. The game follows Damion, an aspiring monster tamer who gets drawn into a conflict between two major powers after a mishap during his final examination. Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is an musical RPG that follows Grace, a college dropout who is bestowed with the power of a Muse. Determined to learn the fate of her predecessor, Grace must ally herself with the Greek gods hidden amongst the populace with the player determining who she can trust. The game features fully-interactive musical numbers with compositions by Austin Wintory, Tripod, and Montaigne. The Dragoness: Command of the Flame

Strategy title The Dragoness: Command of the Flame is heavily inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic. The game sees players commanding a force on the Drairthir Peninsula at the behest of the eponymous Dragoness. Players rebuild the kingdom’s ruined capital city of Níwenborh while recruiting an army of beasts and completing quests across numerous maps. A Nintendo Switch version is also planned and is set to launch on September 7, 2023.


Tower of Fantasy

Open world action RPG Tower of Fantasy is set in a future where dwindling resources and energy have caused humanity to migrate to the planet Aida, where an attempt to capture a comet resulted in a catastrophic disaster. Players control adventurers that set out into the post-catastrophe world to help secure humanity’s future.
