EGGCONSOLE Brandish Renewal PC-9801

Another title in the D4 Enterprise’s EGGCONSOLE retro re-release series, Brandish Renewal is a 1995 enhanced version of Nihon Falcom’s 1991 action RPG Brandish, which also later had a PSP remake titled Brandish: The Dark Revenant. The game is a top-down dungeon-crawler but sees the player character move toward the top of the screen, with turning roating the map. It sees players control bounty hunter Ares, who is aiming to escape a labyrinth. Like other EGGCONSOLE releases, the Nintendo Switch version has the main game and gallery screen in Japanese while the menu and “how to play” screens are in English.

Enter the Gungeon / Exit the Gungeon

Enter the Gungeon is a bullet-hell dungeon-crawler, while Exit the Gungeon is a platforming spin-off. Enter the Gungeon follows a band of misfits entering the Gungeon to find its ultimate treasure with which they can obtain absolution: the gun that can kill the past. The mobile version of Enter the Gungeon includes new touch-friendly controls, online co-op multiplayer, and a new playable character: the Lamb from Cult of the Lamb.

Hidden Pass

Hidden Pass is a tactical story-driven roguelite. Billed as drawing inspiration from titles such as XCOM 2, Into The Breach, and Heroes of Might and Magic III, the game is set in the fantasy world of Averon, made of multiple islands floating in the sky. The player is tasked with leading an expedition to the centre of the Elyrium Belt.

OFF

Retro-styled RPG OFF is a remake of the game originally developed using the RPG Maker 2003 engine and released for PC in French in 2008. OFF puts players in the role of the Batter, a man wearing a baseball uniform, as he seeks to purify a strange, hopeless world haunted by specters. He is guided by a cryptic, grinning cat called the Judge and travels through various bizarre areas. The new version of the game will feature a new combat system, balance adjustments, additional areas and bosses, new music featuring multiple guest composers, and a new official English translation. Those looking to read more about OFF can check out Ryan Costa’s review of its PC version.

Shrouded Aspect

Shrouded Aspect is set in a fantasy world where the fallen God of Death, Despater, has awakened and unleashed a plague. The game follows Betha, a mysterious girl who harbours a powerful secret and the potential means to defeat Despater. She must travel across the land, rallying allies to fight back against the deity. The game features a tactical turn-based combat system, with players recruiting warriors who have their own skills, strengths, and stories.
