Monster Hunter Rise Shows More Sunbreak Content

Capcom posted a new video presentation for the upcoming Sunbreak expansion for Monster Hunter Rise. The presentation, hosted by series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Yoshitake Suzuki, came with new screenshots and a trailer, as well as more details for the new content included in the expansion.

Three new monsters were unveiled in the presentation. The Flying Wyvern Seregios makes its return after previously being the flagship monster for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. It is known for its aerial manoeuvres and the Bladescales covering its body; when it sheds its scales it can inflict the bleed status on nearby hunters. The expansion will also feature two additional monster subspecies. Aurora Somnacanth can release a chilling mist, generating ice paths that it can glide across, and unleash a powerful ice breath. Meanwhile, Magma Almudron uses molten rock to augment its attacks.

The presentation also provided details about the Elder Dragon Malzeno, the expansion’s flagship monster. It can command a swarm of parasites that can capture and absorb energy from its prey. Meanwhile, Malzeno itself can inflict the bloodblight, where it and its target engage in a duel to see whose life force runs out first. Should the targetted hunter fall, Malzeno changes into a more powerful form.

Sunbreak will provide players with access to the new Switch Skill Swap ability. This lets players assign different skill sets to two different loadouts and switch between them on the fly. If swapping while under attack, hunters can also use a Swap Evade to avoid it or put themselves in a better position. The fourteen weapon types will also receive new Switch Skills with Sunbreak.

Finally, Sunbreak will add new Follower Quests. These are single-player missions where players can bond with the game’s cast while completing quests with them. Each Follower character has their own specialisation and can assist players by placing traps, recovering health, and more. Available Followers include new characters Fiorayne, Luchika, Jae, Admiral Galleus, and Master Arlow as well as returning characters such as Hinoa and Minoto.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will release on PC and Nintendo Switch on June 30, 2022. The expansion will be available to purchase individually or in a new bundle featuring both Monster Hunter Rise and Sunbreak. A Deluxe Edition will be available that includes bonus content such as layered armor sets, gestures, and hairstyles.
