Square Enix Details Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin Improvements

Square Enix held a panel during this year’s Tokyo Game Show where it detailed the improvements made to Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin ahead of its ongoing second trial. The full presentation can be viewed below in Japanese audio with English subtitles alongside a set of new and recently-released screenshots.

A number of improvements have been made to the graphics, including polishing the graphics from the area in the first trial and reducing the general darkness of the visuals, something that was a common issue in the feedback from the first trial. The game also runs at a higher resolution, with the new trial supporting 4K resolution. The developers have also rebalanced some of the game’s actions and abilities. For example, Jack’s Lightbringer is now stronger but costs more MP to use.

The companion characters’ AI has also been improved and a new Resonance feature added, which boosts companions for a short period of time. When Resonance is active, the selected party member will use their abilities more; for example, Ash will look to draw enemies’ attention and let the player focus on magic casting. Players are also now able to customise companions’ abilities and equipment. It is confirmed that the full retail game will let players change their companions’ jobs, with their behaviour changing to match that job. Finally, the game includes adjustments to the tutorials to make them less overwhelming, while difficulty has been rebalanced with the options renamed to Story, Action, and Hard.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is an action RPG based on the setting of Final Fantasy I and is being developed by Team Ninja. The game is intended as a new story without any direct connections and follows Warriors of Light Jack, Ash, Jed, and Neon. Stanger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin Trial Version 2 is available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S until 7:59 a.m. PDT on October 11, 2021. The demo allows players to explore a new area called the Refrin Wetlands, gain a new party member, sample the game’s multiplayer, and more. Stanger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin will release on March 18, 2022, for PC (via the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
