Void Dungeon PAX West Impression

I love the fun quirks of defeating skeletons only for their bodies to continue to run around, as well as the poison-farting spiders.

Void Dungeon is an action RPG from developer TRIK Soft and publisher better. publishing, offering classic hack-and-slash dungeon crawling gameplay with a twist. Its PAX West demo opened up with a creepy warlock holding a magical stone in a graveyard before letting me create my character by choosing a race and a class from mage, archer, and knight. After that, the player character rode up on a horse to a gate with a waiting guard, telling them to talk to the chief. The game appears very cozy and open, with the mini map in the corner leading players to their next quest objective.

The characters speak in a Animal Crossing-esque manner, in a language that said to be made up by the development team. The chief then led the player character to a chest to pick their weapon, with a subsequent tutorial showing how to find the inventory and equip items, before beginning a quest to find Marcel in the mysterious cave. There were crates around outside, and if anyone else grew up playing The Legend of Zelda like I did, one’s natural inclination is to destroy all crates. I did, and was rewarded with eggplants, with food restores HP and MP. After rescuing Marcel, he ran away, saying he’s too old for this mess, leaving me to finish his job and get the missing runes. Let’s just say I died a lot finding the runes, but unfortunately defeat just leads respawning at a point in the area you died in; there are no manual save points or any permadeath.

Upon the game’s release, currently planned for PC later this year, there will be daily activities and a survival mode to keep people interested. It’s feel like a good game for people who aren’t into intense gaming and want to just run around solo or with friends and beat up monsters. I love the fun quirks of defeating skeletons only for their bodies to continue to run around, as well as the poison-farting spiders.

I am looking forward to it coming out. It’s a cute, cozy game with more extensive character customization than one would think from a pixel action RPG, and I loved customizing my characters, with many hairstyles and eye shapes to pick from. Void Dungeon works with either keyboard and mouse or a controller and is expected to take about 20-30 hours to complete
