PAX East Friday Roundup

Jon Jansen was at PAX East 2023 on Friday to preview multiple upcoming RPGs. Here’s a quick roundup of the titles he tried out and quick thoughts on each of them.

Demonschool PAX East Impression

Jon Jansen was at PAX East and sat down with Ysbryd Games to test out the upcoming tactical RPG. The aesthetic alone is an attraction, but the combat can be a great starting point for newcomers of the genre.

WrestleQuest PAX West Impression

RPGamer was able to check out WrestleQuest at this year’s PAX West. If you want to play an 80s wrestler, hurl insults, and punch people in the face, this is the game for you.

Broken Ranks Impression

RPGamer had the opportunity to test Broken Ranks and chat with Whitemoon Games during PAX Online. This free-to-play MMORPG has an innovative battle system and a noticeable focus on story.

Summoners Fate Impression

As part of PAX Online, RPGamer was given the opportunity to talk to the founder of D20Studios about Summoners Fate and sample a demo. This deck-builder offers novel ways of controlling a party and promotes creativity.

Peglin Impression

Peglin is a hybrid of roguelike and pachinko from developer Red Nexus Games. During PAX Online, RPGamer was able to chat with Red Nexus Games’ Dylan Gedig to learn more about the game as well as check out its demo on Steam.

Reina and Jericho Impression

Reina and Jericho is a story-driven metroidvania that follows a woman looking to rescue her partner and escape from a tyrant’s fortress. During PAX Online, RPGamer was given the opportunity to chat to Reclamation Games’ Dave Wightman and check out the game’s demo.

Below the Stone Preview

Below the Stone is an action roguelike where players take dwarves into the depths below the Dwarven Kingdom to bring back riches. RPGamer was given the opportunity to talk to Strollart’s Michael Carrol and Apogee Entertainment’s Scott Miller to learn more about the game and its development.

Gamedec PAX Online Impression

Gamedec is the latest title to follow the footsteps of other recent successful RPG/adventure hybrids. The PAX Online demo shows some glimpses of the world, and teases the beginning of an investigation.

No Place for Bravery PAX Online Impression

No Place for Bravery is a top-down action RPG following grizzled warrior Thorn on his search for his daughter Leaf. During PAX Online, RPGamer got to check out a demo and chat to developer Glitch Factory and publisher Ysbryd Games about the upcoming title.

Dreamscaper PAX Online Impression

Dreamscaper is a an action roguelite with narrative elements currently available on Steam Early Access. During PAX Online, RPGamer got the opportunity to check out its Early Access version and chat to developer Afterburner Studios.

Jack Move PAX Online Impression

So Romantic and HypeTrain Digital released a limited-time demo of sci-fi RPG Jack Move for PAX Online. Using pixel visuals with a cyberpunk touch, Jake Move includes many RPG staples and a promising story.
