Langrisser: Sea of Sword Receives First Details, Media

Black Jack Studio and HongKong GameTree Limited have released the first details and media for the recently-announced Langrisser: Sea of Sword. The latest revival of the Langrisser fantasy tactical RPG series is in development for PC, iOS, and Android, and available to wishlist now on Steam.

Langrisser: Sea of Sword puts players in the role of “the Nameless”, an amnesiac figure who sets out on a journey with a mysterious white-haired girl named Eta in a vast empire. It continues the series’ regular structure, where players commands squads of units that are each led by a hero, but Sea of Sword will see each squad lead by a primary hero and a secondary hero. Each squad can contain unit types from both heroes, and players can switch the heroes’ roles on the fly. Certain hero pairings will also allow players to activate special Hero Unity Skills.

In addition, the game will move away from dedicated stages and let players explore the world. Maps will include light puzzle mechanics and terrain-shifting elements, with elevation differences and destructible objects playing a role in combat, as well as NPC interactions and material gathering. The game will also see players unlock and upgrade their own territory. It will also feature music from Yasunori Nishiki (Octopath Traveler).

The Langrisser series was created by Masaya Games. The first Langrisser game was originally released for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 in Japan in 1991 and brought to the west under the title Warsong. It received five mainline titles, with the latest released in 1998, plus a number of compilations and spin-offs, including the most recent Langrisser I & II remake bundle, released in Japan in 2019 and in the west in 2020.
