Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Details Monster Arena

Square Enix released new screenshots and information for the upcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The latest update provides more detail on monster rescues and the monster arena, as well as introducing the locations of Romaria and Mur.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake features the new Monster Wangler vocation, which lets players befriend various lonesome monsters and use various monster abilities in battles. These monsters can be recruited and used in ranked tournaments at the monster arenas scattered about the game’s world. Each tournament lets players enter a team of three monsters to take on multiple bouts in a row.

Monsters can be recruited by finding friendly monsters throughout the world. However, different monsters will react differently when approached and may flee when they spot the party or upon sensing certain sounds or smells. As players rescue more monsters of the same species, the recruited monster used in arena tournaments will get stronger. In addition, having a Monster Wrangler in the party will prevent friendly monsters from fleeing. Meanwhile, their Monster Pile-On attack will get stronger with the more monsters rescued, and they will also learn new abilities.

Romaria is a nation with impressive architecture. It is home to a popular monster arena, with monster battles being a beloved pastime that attract visitors from outside. Meanwhile, Mur is a snowy village that is rarely able to welcome visitors, but has lively citizens with its own market and wharf.

Dragon Quest III originally released for the Famicom in Japan in 1988 and is the third title in the connected Erdrick saga. It takes place prior to the events of its predecessors, with the other two games set to release as Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake next year. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will release on November 14, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
