Monster Hunter Wilds Introduces New Areas, Monsters, More
Capcom released new media and information for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. The update — including a new trailer — reveals new locations, new monsters, new characters, and new gameplay elements for the title, which is set to release in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Monster Hunter Wilds sees players joining a special Research Commission investigating an area called the Forbidden Lands. The Scarlet Forest is a newly-revealed part of the Forbidden Lands and features lush greenery combined with crimson waters. Like other areas, it is dynamic, shifting between periods of Plenty, Inclemency, and Fallow, which impact the landscape and wildlife.
One of the new monsters in the Scarlet Forest is Lala Barina. Part of the series’ rare Temnoceran class of monsters, it has sharp limbs and can unfurl into a rose-like form. Meanwhile, each region in the game has its own apex predator. The apex predator of the previously-revealed Windward Plains is flying wyvern Rey Dau. It is specially adapted to the region’s dusty grassland and can unleash powerful electric strikes.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, players can be joined by NPC Support Hunters, which fill open spot in the player’s parties when playing both solo and online. Hammer-wielding Olivia is one of these Support Hunters, and plays a major role in the story along with her companion Palico Athos. Other new gameplay elements include new moves available to players. These include Power Clash, which sees blocked attacks putting players in a physical struggle, and Offset Attacks, which lets players interrupt a monster with a well-timed strike.
Another location in the game is Kunafa, a settlement within the Windward Plains. The generations-old village has a unique culture, raising livestock for cheese production and being home to Seikrets, the mounts that players will utilise in the game.
Meanwhile, when players are out on expeditions they have a number of objectives and actions available. Players can begin quests by targetting a monster on their map or attacking one they see in the field. They can also prepare for hunts by using a portable grill to gain stat boosts and resting at a Pop-up Camp that acts as a place to manage items and equipment, a return point, and a fast-travel destination.
