Honkai Star Rail Version 2.0 Release Date Announced

Publisher and developer HoYoverse announced the release date for the latest update of the free-to-play RPG Honkai Star Rail. The 2.0 update — titled If One Dreams At Midnight — will release on PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android on February 6, 2024. The update brings a series of system optimizations, and marks the start of the Penacony realm story arc. The Trailblaze Missions related to this new realm will span from versions 2.0 to 2.2, culminating with epilogues in version 2.3.

The Penacony story arc takes place on the planet of the same name, where the crew of the Astral Express has been invited by the Family. The Family controls the entire planet and owns an interstellar hotel named the Reverie. It will be up to the player to discover the truth behind many mysteries related to Penacony, which was once a frontier prison before becoming a place attracting countless interstellar celebrities.

Three new playable characters will debut with the 2.0 update: Black Swan, Sparkle, and Misha. Black Swan (5-star) is a female Memokeeper who can inflict a special stackable damage-over-time effect called Arcana to the enemies. Stacking Arcana increases the player options while dealing more damage to the target. Sparkle (5-star) is a woman assuming various identities. She has the ability to increase her team’s maximum Skill Points, boost the critical damange of a chosen ally, and make a teammate take action faster. Lastly, Misha (4-star) is a young doorman desirous to explore the stars. He deals more damage as his team expends Skill Points and can potentially freeze his target. In addition of these newcomers, the players will reunite with two 5-star characters previously introduced in the Xianzhou Luofu story arc: Dan Heng (Imbibitor Lunae) and Jing Yuan. They will respectively appear in the first and second phase of version 2.0’s event warp.

Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly became obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as much as gameplay. Now, I am writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
