The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak Coming West

NIS America announced that it is releasing Nihon Falcom’s The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak in North America and Europe. The game — released in Japan as The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki — will release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in summer 2024.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak takes place in S.1208, a year after the events of Trails into Reverie. It is set in the Republic of Calvard, to the east of Crossbell and the Erebonian Empire that acted as the settings for the series’ previous titles. The game stars Van Arkride, who works as a spriggan — effectively a private detective and mercenary — based out the Old Town district of Calvard’s capital city Edith. He is hired by Aramis High School student Agnes Claudel to track down her great-grandfather’s lost memento.

Trails through Daybreak features a new combat system that lets players switch seamlessly between the series’ traditional turn-based combat and a new real-time action system. Combat includes new Shard Skills, generated by the new sixth-generation Xipha combat orbment. The game also features a new Alignment system; players’ choices and actions align them towards Law, Chaos, and shades in-between, which impact Van’s status in the city and who might ally or oppose him, plus certain jobs and dialogue options. The game’s sequel, Kuro no Kiseki II -Crimson Sin-, was released in Japan in 2022.
