Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origins’s Wanderer of the Rift Gets More Details, Media

Square Enix released new details and media for Wanderer of the Rift, the second DLC for action RPG Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origins. The DLC will release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on October 26, 2022. It is included as part of the game’s Season Pass along with Trials of the Dragon King and a third piece of DLC yet to be revealed.

Wanderer of the Rift takes place after the events of the main game. It introduces the character Gilgamesh, who is able to wander freely between dimensions and challenges Jack and his allies. Upon his appearance in the world, a new labyrinth — the Rift Labyrinth — manifests, with the new story arc taking place as players work through the Rift Labyrinth’s series of randomly-generated short dungeons.

In addition to the new story content, Wanderer of the Rift introduces the new Blue Mage job. It is unlocked as part of the Rift Labyrinth and lets players learn enemy abilities, which can be used instantly through soul shield or by equipping certain accessories. The DLC also introduces new monster bells. These items let players summon a monster to support them in battle. To unlock a support monster, players need to find a summonstone and complete an event involving that monster. Players can increase their affinity through conversations and by giving them food or items, with the monster giving monster bells in return.

The DLC introduces other new game mechanics tied to the new Gilgamesh difficulty level, which raises monster levels even further and requires players to have first completed the first DLC, Trial of the Dragon King. This level sees monsters infused with chaos appearing in missions across the game. These chaos monsters — indicated with a crown icon — are more dangerous than their regular versions but provide greater rewards. In addition, players may obtain special relic equipment blessed by one of the game’s summons. These blessings provide different effects, including affecting characters’ stats, and can be appraised by the Tonberry Blacksmith.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is a reimagining of the first title in the Final Fantasy series and is developed by Koei Tecmo’s Team Ninja division.
