Colopl Announces Volzerk: Monsters and Lands Unknown

Japanese developer Colopl has announced 3D monster-breeding action RPG. The game is being released in Japan as Monster Universe and internationally as Volzerk: Monsters and Lands Unknown for PC (via Steam), iOS, and Android. It will release as a free-to-play title with in-app transactions in Japanese in late January 2023, with English support to be added with a future update.

Volzerk: Monsters and Lands Unknown is set on the island of Fort Lemuria. Discovered to be home to both ruins and monsters, humanity sets up a Research Commission on the island, but soon the island guardian Volzerk fights with a beast known as Magna, resulting in both disappearing. Ten years later, many of the monsters are in danger of extinction. Players control a new recruit to the Research Commission named Fina, who loves monsters and was the only one to witness Volzerk’s disappearance.

The game is said to feature an in-depth breeding system. Different characters can impart abilities to monsters, and two monsters can be bred together to create a new monster that inherits its parents’ abilities. It will feature music from Yoko Kanno, as well as Japanese voice acting.
