New Release Round-Up (September 30, 2021)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases.


Alchemic Cutie

Simulation RPG Alchemic Cutie is set on Wimba Island and sees players taming and raising wild jellies. Each jelly has different attributes and traits and players have various options to grow them. These jellies can then be entered in competitions.


Asdivine Saga

Asdivine Saga is a new entry in KEMCO and Exe Create’s retro-style Asdivine series. The game follows a mercenary called Vyse, who is joined by a pair of princesses and a shinobi as the uncover the machinations behind a sudden outbreak of war.


Astria Ascending

Turn-based RPG Astria Ascending puts players in control of the Demigods, a group of eight heroes tasked with saving the world from chaos. The game is a reimagining of Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey, which was released for iOS in 2015, and features contributions from a number of Final Fantasy series veterans, including a narrative from Kazushige Nojima, art from Akihiko Yoshida and Hideo Minaba, and music from Hitoshi Sakimoto.


Chernobylite

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One (previously released on PC)

Chernobylite is a survival horror RPG that follows Igor, a physicist and former employee of the Chernobyl Power Plant who is investigating the mysterious disappearance of his fiancée, Tatyana, thirty years ago. The game recreates the real-life Exclusion Zone site using 3D-scanning technology and features free exploration, stealth, combat, crafting, base-building, resource management, and a non-linear story. Dandy Ace

Roguelite action RPG Dandy Ace follows a magician called Ace who seeks to defeat the Green-Eyed Illusionist, Lele. As he fights through Lele’s changing palace, Ace creates spells by combining magical cards. The Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions include new cards and equipable trinkets, which are available on the PC version through a free update.


Darksiders III

Platform: Nintendo Switch (previously released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia)

Darksiders III is a follow-up to the previous two titles and follows the third Horseman of the Apocalypse, Fury. Sister of the first Horseman Death, Fury is tasked with hunting down the personifications of the Seven Deadly Sins. Death’s Gambit: Afterlife

Death’s Gambit is a 2D action RPG where players take on the role of the Reaper of Death in a gothic world filled with challenging beasts, knights, undead guardians, and more. Afterlife includes ten new levels featuring six new bosses, twenty-two new weapons, multiple endings, and an expansion to the game’s talent tree, bringing its total to over 100 talents. The Afterlife content is also on PlayStation 4 and PC as a free update.


Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – A Hero’s Bonds

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – A Hero’s Bonds is based on the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai spin-off manga series that ran in Japan between 1989 and 1996 and received animated adaptations in 1991 and 2020. The game includes the original story as well as a new adventure. It uses a real-time combat system with a three-lane battlefield and features co-op for up to three players. Mary Skelter Finale

Dungeon-crawler Mary Skelter Finale is a sequel to Mary Skelter: Nightmares and Mary Skelter 2. It follows six protagonists who have escaped from the living prison known as The Jail only to discover that the outer world is filled with the bodies of those killed by Genocide Pink. Finale includes an adventure mode that lets players see the events of the previous two games.


NEO: The World Ends with You

Platform: PC (previously released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)
Publisher: Square Enix

Price: $59.99

NEO: The World Ends with You is a sequel to The World Ends with You and follows Rindo, a young resident of Shibuya. Rindo and his friend Fret are forced to join in with the Reaper’s Game, where participants fight monsters called Noise using superpowered pins with the losers facing erasure. New World

MMORPG New World is set in a world inspired by the 17th century age of expedition, with players being part of the colonisation effort of Aeternum Island. The game features classless combat that is designed to accentuate player skill. It features diverse multiplayer options, including 100-player War siege battles, 40-player Outpost Rush area control battles, five-player Expedition dungeons, and 50-player Invasions as players fight off waves of monsters. Peachleaf Pirates

Peachleaf Pirates is a relaxing point-and-click and farming sim RPG hybrid. It stars an amnesiac protagonist who washes ashore on a strange island with no knowledge of how he arrived. The locals welcome the new drifter and provide him with his own plot of land. Players will be able to grow and harvest crops, raise livestock, craft, cook, and clear farm space, while researching the island, fighting monsters, and uncovering secrets scattered across its locations.


Phoenix Point

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One (previously released on PC, Mac, Google Stadia)

Phoenix Point is billed as a spiritual successor to the X-COM series, which was created by studio head Julian Gollop. The game is set in 2047 with Earth under attack from an alien force and players acting as the leader of a cell in a secretive organisation called the Phoenix Project. The console Behemoth Edition includes all four major DLC expansions including the new Corrupted Horizons expansion that is also launching on PC and Mac.


Rogue Lords

Price: $24.99 (20% launch discount)

Party-based roguelike Rogue Lords is set in a version of the 17th century where mortals and other entities live side-by-side, where players control the Devil after he is forced to retreat to hell following a defeat. In addition to regaining his powers, he looks to restore the spread of corruption and re-exert his control over the world. To do this, he forms a team of others dedicated to evil, including Bloody Mary, Dracula, the White Lady, and Baron Samedi.


Xuan Yuan Sword VII

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One (previously released on PC)
Publisher: eastasiasoft, Softstar Entertainment
Developer: DOMO
Available: PlayStation Store (link not available), Microsoft Store
Price: $49.99

Action RPG Xuan Yuan Sword VII is the latest entry in the long-running Taiwanese RPG series and is set in a version of China about 2000 years ago, towards the end of the Western Han dynasty. Players control Taishi Zhao, a swordsman who sets out on a journey to protect his family.
