RPGamer Round-Up: August 1 – August 8

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we take a look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the previous week. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

The full release of action roguelite Dreamscaper is finally here. Alex Fuller reports that Afterburner Studios has cultivated a strong gameplay loop that grabs players with its melancholic but immersive atmosphere.

A tale as old as time, a turn-based tactical RPG with more hits than misses. Ryan Costa finds Wildermyth’s great combat ideas outweigh some story pacing issues and make it worth a look.

WitchSpring3 Re:Fine is the first console release for the Korean RPG series. Ahead of its upcoming western Switch release, RPGamer was given the chance to chat to STUDIOARTDINK’s Masashi Saito, KIWIWALKS’s Yeonju Kim, and IKINAGAMES’s SeJong Joo about the game and series.

Anna Marie is back with her seventh Backloggin’ report. The backlog grows but then shrinks, while new games manage to sneak in too.


Major News

Koei Tecmo provided more combat and character-focused images and details for Blue Reflection: Second Light. Gust’s magical girl RPG launches later this year.

Korean publisher Nexon held a showcase presentation for its upcoming projects. Included in the presentation were a number of RPGs.

The Vale: Shadow of the Crown is an audio-only action RPG fully accessible to blind players. Players will need to keep their ears open when the game launches in just a couple of weeks.

The WitchSpring series’ console debut is arriving in the west very soon. WitchSpring3 Re:Fine: The Story of Eirudy launches on Switch in just over a week.

Aksys Games held its All Aksys digital event this week. In addition to announcing many otome visual novels and other titles, the publisher revealed a western release date for Experience Inc.’s Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi.

Achilles: Legends Untold will allow players to take control of the famous Greek warrior. Hopefully his heel will be heavily guarded when this game releases on PC via Steam early in 2022.
