Nippon Ichi Announces The Wicked King and the Noble Hero
Nippon Ichi Software announced The Wicked King and the Noble Hero, a new RPG from Sayaka Oda, creator of The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince. The game follows a human child named Yuu and the dragon that acts as her foster parent.
In the game’s past, the world was ruled by the dragon overlord, until a hero appeared and defeated him. Instead of killing the dragon, the hero decided to cut off the dragon’s horns that fuelled his power, with the two becoming friends. One day, the hero returns to the dragon with his daughter — Yuu — and a mortal wound, asking the dragon to look after her. The dragon tells Yuu of her father’s exploits and she decides to become a hero like him.
The Wicked King and the Noble Hero sees Yuu adventuring through magical forests home to various monsters. The game features hand-drawn picture book graphics. It also features pencil-drawn illustrations for certain story parts connected by page turns. Combat is turn-based, while exploration sees the dragon following Yuu in the background and helping her overcome obstacles in her path. Some monsters are friendly and can be interacted with. At night Yuu will tell the dragon about her adventures, while the dragon will tell Yuu more of her father’s exploits.
The Wicked King and the Noble Hero is being developed for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The game will be released in Japan on June 24, 2021. No announcement has been made regarding a western release at this time.
