NieR TGS Presentation Provides Decent Amount of New Info

Square Enix held its “We Have a Decent Amount of New Info” special presentation for the NieR series, where it provided new information on the upcoming NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… and NieR Re[in]carnation. The presentation was hosted by voice actor Hiroki Yasumoto, who was joined by series producer Yosuke Saito, series creative director Yoko Taro, and composer Keiichi Okabe, with guest appearances from Toylogic’s Saki Ito, Applibot’s Daichi Matsukawa, and PlatinumGames’ Takahisa Taura.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… is a remaster of the Replicant version of the first NieR game. NieR was originally released in 2010 in two versions in Japan, NieR Gestalt and NieR Replicant, while North America and Europe only received the Gestalt version. Both games tell the same story, with the main character attempting to find a cure for family member Yonah. In Gestalt the character is Yonah’s father, while in Replicant the main character is her brother.

During the presentation, Square Enix announced that NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… will release for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan on April 22, 2021, and in North America and Europe on April 23, 2021. It will also be released for PC via Steam worldwide on April 23, 2021. Square Enix also announced a limited White Snow Edition, which is available to pre-order exclusively from the Square Enix Store in North America for $159.99. The edition includes a collector’s box, a SteelBook case, a set of three pins with display case, a seven-book script set, and a 2-CD soundtrack set. Director Saki Ito from developer Toylogic joined to show off a short amount of gameplay from the title.

NieR Re[in]carnation is the series’ first smartphone title and is being developed by Applibot for iOS and Android. The game sees players traversing an area called “The Cage”, collecting parts of “weapon’s memory” that have been distorted and restoring them. The game is split between 3D exploration in the Cage and 2D events for the weapon’s memory, with combat taking place at certain points. NieR Re[in]carnation will be a free-to-play title with microtransactions and is currently open for pre-registration in Japan. Square Enix confirmed that the game is also coming to North America and Europe.
