Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.2 Date, Details Revealed
Square Enix held its latest Letter from the Producer Live presentation for Final Fantasy XIV, during which producer Naoki Yoshida provided details of the latest 5.2 patch coming to the game and its latest expansion, Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. The patch is titled Echoes of a Fallen Star and will launch on February 18, 2020, with a new trailer viewable below.
Echoes of a Fallen Star will continue the story threads left over from Shadowbringers and the Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty 5.1 patch. The new main scenario content will include the new dungeon of Anamnesis Anyder, which will be available to run under the Trust system that was introduced in Shadowbringers, where players can enter on their own with NPC party members instead of other players.
The 5.2 patch will include the second part of the Eden raid series, which includes the introduction of the Tetsuya Nomura-designed character Gaia. Like the first part, the raids will come in Normal and Savage versions and feature battles against new versions of familiar enemies. It will also include the start of the new “The Sorrow of Werlyt” questline, which will include a new trial called the Cinder Drift where players will fight against Ruby Weapon.
Patch 5.2 will continue the promised changes to the Crafter and Gatherer jobs, and will introduce Ocean Fishing for the Fisher gathering job. Players will be able to board a ship at specified times and earn experience or scrips, based on what they catch during the expedition. The following 5.21 patch will introduce a new update for the Ishgardian Restoration content. Finally, the planned 5.25 patch will introduce the new Resistance Weapon quest series, where players will be able to earn more powerful equipment and learn more about the homeland of the Hrothgar race, the Bojza Citadel. More details about the upcoming 5.1, and associated, patches can be found on its dedicated site.
Square Enix also used the presentation to announce the newest set of fan festivals for Final Fantasy XIV. As usual, there will be one event for each of North America, Japan, and Europe, with the following locations and dates confirmed:
- North America — November 6-7, 2020 in San Diego at the San Diego Convention Center
- Japan — December 19-20, 2020 in Nagoya at the Aichi Sky Expo
- Europe — February 20-21, 2021 in London at the ExCeL
Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers was released for PC, Mac, and PlayStation 4 in July 2019. It is the MMORPG’s third expansion and appeared many times in RPGamer’s recently-revealed Best of 2019 Awards.
“Patch 5.2 will mark the start of the promised changes to the Crafter and Gatherer jobs”
Or rather, continue the changes. Crafting and Gathering already underwent a massive overhaul in 5.1.
