Digimon Survive Gets New Details, Screenshots

Bandai Namco released new details for its upcoming tactical RPG Digimon Survive. The game follows Takuma Momotsuka, a middle school student attending a camp during spring break. On the second day, Takuma, Minoru Hinata, and Aoi Shibuya visit a shrine where a festival centred on local “Beast Gods” is held. The trio meet a friendly monster called Koromon and, upon hearing a scream, rush to find their friends being attacked by other monsters. Koromon evolves into Agumon to defeat the monsters, but the group realises they are in unfamiliar surroundings covered in fog. The group eventually manages to make it back to the school building where it camp is based, but discover that it seems to have been abandoned for decades and that nature has reclaimed it.

In addition to the aforementioned trio, who appeared in previous updates for the game, Bandai Namco introduced a couple of other characters. Ryou Tominaga is a third-year student from a different school to Takuma. He refuses to accept that he has been brought to what appears to be another world and shuns Kunemon. Kunemon is an insect-like Digimon with lightning-shaped marks on it. Though it can’t speak, it appears to understand human language.

Digimon Survive features event sections and tactical combat sections. During the event portions, there are two main aspects. Free actions let players wander around and talk to other characters at will, while search actions see players searching for something that will help the characters survive in their current situation. Players uncover hints through their investigations to find what is needed to progress the story.

Digimon Survive is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game is set to be released sometime in 2020.
