Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Hits Japan in September

Nihon Falcom has announced that its latest title in the Ys action RPG series, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, will be released in Japan for PlayStation 4 on September 26, 2019. In addition to announcing the release date, the developer also provided more details and media for the game, which includes a change in appearance for series protagonist Adol.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox takes place after Ys Seven, making it the latest title chronologically in the series so far. Adol is aged 24 in Ys IX, and his hair has changed from his recognisable red locks to a blue-black colour. At the time of the game he is wanted as a material witness to the disappearance of a fleet and is detained in the prison city of Baldeux. He attempts to break out but becomes involved in an incident in the city involving Monstrum. Adol will be joined by his long-time companion Dogi, who is aged 29 at the time of the game.

Nihon Falcom also detailed and showed another of the game’s Monstrum powers that are used to aid exploration. The Crimson Line skill allows its user to instantly move certain distances by extending a red line from their left hand. The skill works through walls and rocks, and can be used to spring into and deal damage to an enemy.
