Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Adds Boost State, Extra Skills

Nihon Falcom has released new details and screenshots for action RPG Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, detailing the game’s Boost and Extra Skill systems. Boost is a temporary state that can be activated by pressing both shoulder buttons. This state provides multiple buffs, such as increasing damage dealt, reducing damage taken, increasing movement speed, and more.

While in Boost state, if players press both shoulder buttons again, they activate that character’s Extra Skill. These are ultimate attacks that do large amounts of damage across a large range, but using them will end the Boost state. The developer provided a couple of examples of Extra Skills: White Cat’s Albion Strike causes a shockwave to hit the target and nearby enemies, while Doll’s Carnival Maiden generates numerous slashing attacks that spread out from her, hitting enemies multiple times regardless of whether they are high up or low down.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is set to be released in Japan for PlayStation 4 on September 26, 2019. No announcement has been made regarding a potential western release for the game.
