Capcom Shows More of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance

Capcom held its Capcom Spotlight TGS 2026 broadcast, during which it showed more footage from Monster Hunter Wilds‘s upcoming Ascendance expansion. During the broadcast, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Takuro Hiraoka revealed more details about the expansion, including revealing that Elder Dragon Teostra will make its return.

Ascendance sees the Hunter’s Guild and people of the Forbidden Lands prepare for the return of the Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung, who unexpectedly appeared a few years prior and overwhelmed the Hunters who tried to defeat it. They are based at the new stronghold of Madoi, while the mists above Wyveria have also cleared, revealing various floating ruins. Players follow Nata and his partner Bangard the Wudwud towards the Skybound Eyrie, joined by other returning characters as they also uncover apparent changes in the ecosystem. Other new monsters in Ascendance include the high-altitude Bird Wyverns, Araketa, and another Elder Dragon, Gundoraja.

Ascendance includes the new Boost Bracer, which grants access to new Boosted Actions. These are new combos and enhanced attacks for each weapon that are available when players enter Boost mode after using new Boost Driver attacks. Other gameplay refinements, which will also be added to the base game, include faster weapon swaps, the ability to change equipment outside of the tent, and hunter loadout changes.

In other news, Capcom announced a change to the game’s character customisation coming with the release of Ascendance. Players will be able to freely edit their appearance without needing to use a Character Edit Voucher. From December 3, 2026, Character Edit Vouchers will no longer be distributed to players through purchases or gifts, but Capcom will provide players with ten Character Edit Vouchers and ten Palico Edit Vouchers for free, which can be used until the release of Ascendance.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is planned to release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, following the Nintendo Switch 2 release of Monster Hunter Wilds on December 4, 2026. Monster Hunter Wilds sees players joining the special Research Commission as it explores the Forbidden Lands and learns of the threat called the White Wraith, long thought extinct.
