Robot Rhapsody Kickstarter Campaign Underway
Developer Rapturous Studio has begun a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for its turn-based pixel-art RPG Robot Rhapsody. The same is said to feature a “cyberpunk odyssey of techno-cults, rebels, and robotic bards” with a twenty-to-thirty-hour main story and ten-plus hours of side content.
Robot Rhapsody in set in a world where humanity is on the edge of anarchic revolution and a supposed singularity, ruled by AI mega-corporations. The game takes place primarily around Zoxxo City, a metropolis that has been partially reclaimed by nature after the outlawing of advanced tech. It follows Selva Lux, a sardonic mercenary who previously hunted rogue robots before forming a gang of freedom-fighters aiming to halt AI development. After her friends start disappearing, she elects to live off-grid in Zoxxo City, but events conspire to involve her and her allies.
The game will include NPCs with changing schedules, dialogue, and quests depending on story events and who is in the party, including robots hidden beneath the city. It will also include a day-night cycle; multiple methods of environmental traversal; secret paths, treasure chests, and optional boss encounters in an interconnected world; and a bounty meter system. Combat sees its six-plus playable characters, each having a unique mechanic with customisable builds. Battles are turn-based, with order depending on character speed, though the developer is experimental with an optional ATB-style mode. Skills can make use of an OverDRIVE System to allow players to potentially use high-powered versions of them. The game will include three difficulty modes: Story Mode, Classic Mode, or Expert Mode.
The campaign is looking for $20,000 in funding and is set to run until August 14, 2026. Those who pledge at least $20 will receive a digital PC copy of the game, which is currently expected to release in late 2027.
